Many Knowadays students decide to become proofreaders as a way to supplement their main income. And while freelance proofreading is great as a side income, many of our graduates find themselves considering it as a new career path. Amy is one of those graduates, and we caught up with her to find out more about her new freelance work.

What made you consider the Knowadays course?

I wanted to improve my skills and explore a new career. I liked the possibility of guaranteed work for Proofed rather than starting out completely on my own.

Had you done any proofreading before taking the Becoming A Proofreader course?

Yes, it’s been part of my work as a governance officer for Nottingham Trent University. I still do this as well as freelance proofreading.

How has your transition to working as a freelance proofreader with Proofed been?

I have enjoyed working for Proofed so far. I’ve received lots of helpful feedback on my documents and have joined the team editing documents for one of Proofed’s business clients, which has been challenging but a useful experience.

How has life changed for you as a freelance proofreader?

The opportunity to work with Proofed gives me a chance to earn some extra money while honing my skills and caring for my family. The course has also given me the potential to develop a new career in the future if I wish to.

These days, I work part-time as a governance officer from Monday to Thursday and fit in some documents from Proofed around these hours and at the weekends. All around the school run, too, of course!
