Hi, Rowena! What made you consider Knowadays?

I had just completed another online proofreading course. But I decided to take Becoming A Proofreader because I liked the idea of having a work guarantee once I passed. Plus the course description was clear and in-depth, so I knew exactly what to expect.

Was there anything particularly challenging in the course for you?

It’s all challenging, but practice makes it easier.

What has been the best benefit of having done the course?

Being able to work from home and having a job where I’m appreciated for my efforts.

It’s the best value for the money. I have already recouped the cost for both of the proofreading courses I took.

What do you enjoy most about proofreading?

The variety: you never know what you’re going to get!

Do you have a favorite type of document or subject area to proofread?

Of all the documents I have worked on so far, I must admit I really enjoy proofreading manuscripts. Almost every paper I’ve proofread has taught me something, though.

How has your transition to working as a freelance proofreader with Proofed been?

Amazing. I was laid off in June 2019, so this dream has been two years in the making. And thanks to everyone at Proofed it’s becoming a reality.

How has life changed for you as a freelance proofreader?

I found my smile! It had been gone for a while.

What is your day-to-day routine like now?

When I first started with Proofed, I would keep my phone, iPad, or laptop on, constantly refreshing to keep an eye on the queue.

Now, after a month and a half, I am being rewarded for my work ethic in the form of regular documents and job satisfaction.

Where do you proofread?

I have a sweet little roll-top desk in a corner of my home with windows everywhere.

Have you been self-employed before? How are you finding it?

No. The hardest part so far has been learning to pace myself and knowing when to take a break, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.

Are you proofreading elsewhere, in addition to your work at Proofed?

I am proofreading in another position that Proofed offered to me. Proofed tested me, set up the interview, and now I work for this client as well as for Proofed. It’s plenty to keep me busy.

Are you making enough money?

More than I have in the last two years. If this month is any indication, I’ll be fine.

What do you do when you aren’t proofreading?

I give my poor neglected animals attention. They still can’t understand why I’m home all day, and I keep telling them to be quiet!

Is there anything else you want to add?

Before beginning this course, I did my due diligence. I read reviews and descriptions and tried the free module. Proofed is exactly as described. I am so grateful for the opportunity.
