I decided that editing/proofreading was a career I wanted to pursue, but everyone hiring wanted someone with experience.

Was there anything challenging in the course for you?

I knew there were some differences in dialect between US, UK, and Australian English, but I didn’t realize how many differences there really are!

The final assignments were also challenging. But I appreciated that because, after passing with distinction, I felt like I was on the right track and had a good grasp of what was expected.

What has been the single best benefit of having done the course?

Getting the opportunity to work with Proofed. The Knowadays course gave me the knowledge I needed to excel in my work.

How has life changed for you as a freelance proofreader?

I’m a stay at home/homeschooling mom, which keeps me pretty busy. So I enjoy having the flexibility as a freelancer to work when it’s convenient for me. And it’s been nice having a little extra income!

Do you have a favorite type of document or subject area to proofread?

I’m always drawn to medical documents since I worked in the medical field for so long.

I’m also very interested in pursuing fiction editing and/or proofreading at some point in the future. But right now I’m just enjoying gaining editing experience and getting paid for it.

I really enjoyed my Knowadays experience. It was invaluable in helping me get started in this career. Also, I love that I still have access to the course material so that I can go back and brush up on certain topics when I need to.
