What made you consider the Knowadays course?

I was looking for something I could do at home to earn some extra money in retirement. I’ve always been a prolific reader, and I appreciate elegant prose. Spelling and grammar errors leap off the page for me, so proofreading seemed to be something I could enjoy and would be good at.

What were you doing before you started the course?

I’m a semi-retired accountant working at home part-time as a bookkeeper for a small company that provides services to the construction industry.

Was there anything surprising or particularly challenging in the course for you?

I was surprised at the volume of detail involved in producing a technically accurate and elegantly presented piece of writing. You need excellent attention to detail and must be prepared to work hard at becoming a proficient proofreader. If this is something that interests you, you will find the course interesting and absorbing, but the 80% distinction mark will still take some hard work to achieve.

What has been the single best benefit of having done the course?

Confirmation that I have an aptitude for the work and gaining a qualification that enables me to provide an excellent service to Proofed’s clients.

What do you enjoy most about proofreading?

The satisfaction of producing a professional, semantically excellent piece of work.

Do you have a favorite type of document or subject area to proofread?

I would like to eventually specialize in formatting Word and Excel documents.

Where do you proofread? Have you got a workspace set up?

I have a dedicated, fully equipped home office.

Are you doing any other non-proofreading work?

Yes, I am still doing some bookkeeping work but scaling it down to allow a reasonable amount of time for proofreading.

What do you do when you aren’t proofreading?

When I’m not proofreading, I’m doing part-time bookkeeping or enjoying reading, swimming, or walking.
